Joel Western (born 12 October 2002) is anAustralian rules football player who played for theFremantle Football Club in theAustralian Football League (AFL).

A member of Fremantle'sNext Generation Academy (NGA), as his mother was born inSingapore,[1] Western was drafted with the 54th selection in the2020 national draft, when Fremantle matched theWestern Bulldogs's bid.[2] He had played junior football forClaremont and representedWestern Australia at Under 18 level. His father John, also played football forSubiaco in the 1980s and his sisterMikayla Western plays for theWest Coast Eagles, having previously played one game for Fremantle in theAFL Women's league in 2022 as aCOVID-19 top-up player.[3]

He was selected to make his AFL debut for Fremantle in round 13 of the2021 AFL season againstGold Coast, alongside fellow 2020 draftee and NGA member,Brandon Walker.[4]

Following the conclusion of the 2022 seasonFremantle Football Club delisted Western, after playing fourAFL games for the club.[5]
