Joseph Anthony Adams (born 13 February 2001) is a professionalfootballer who plays as aleft winger forNorthern Premier League Division One West clubMossley.

A graduate of theBuryacademy, Adams made sporadic appearances during 18 months as a professional at the club and transferred toBrentford in 2019. After2+12 years of exclusivelyB team football, he transferred toDundalk in 2022. Following the2022 season, Adams moved intonon-League football. He returned to Irish football withKerry in 2025. Adams was capped byWales at youth level. Autility player, he is also adept as anattacking midfielder orwing back.[4][5]

Club career

Bury

Predominantly aleft winger,[4] Adams joinedBury at the age of seven.[6] Having graduated through the club'sacademy,[7] he made his first team debut as a substitute forAdam Thompson after 72 minutes of a 3–2League One defeat toNorthampton Town on 14 April 2018.[8] After making four further senior appearances,[9] Adams signed a2+12-year professional contract in December 2018.[10] His progression was such that later that month, he was recognised by League Football Education for his football and academic progress.[11] After remaining with the U18 team and making only one further senior appearance during the2018–19 season,[9] Adams elected to departGigg Lane in July 2019.[7] He was voted the club's 2018–19 Young Player of the Year.[5]

Brentford

On 19 July 2019, Adams transferred to theB team atChampionship clubBrentford and signed a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.[6] He scored 18 goals in 65 B team appearances during2+12 years with the club and gained experience as aright wing back.[12][13] Despite receiving a first team squad number during the2019–20 season,[14] Adams failed to win a call into a matchday squad.[3] On 1 February 2021, Adams joinedLeague Two clubGrimsby Town on loan until the end of the2020–21 season.[15] On his second appearance, in a league match versusCrawley Town on 25 February,[16] AdamsassistedFilipe Morais for the Mariners' opening goal and scored what proved to be the winner in a 2–1 victory.[17] After four further appearances,[16] the loan was terminated early on 9 April.[18] Adams departed Brentford in January 2022.[12]

Dundalk

In January 2022, Adams signed a one-year contract withLeague of Ireland Premier Division clubDundalk for an undisclosed fee.[2][19][20] He made 35 appearances and scored one goal during the2022 season,[21] his only campaign with the club.[22]

Non-League football

On 14 March 2023, Adams signed an undisclosed-length contract withNational League North clubSouthport.[5] He made 12 appearances during the remainder of the2022–23 season and was a part of the club'sLancashire FA Challenge Trophy-winning squad.[23][24] On 26 September 2023, Adams transferred toNorthern Premier League Premier Division clubAtherton Collieries.[25] After three goals in eight appearances,[26] he transferred across the division toWarrington Rylands 1906.[27] Adams ended the2023–24 season with 12 appearances and five goals.[28]

In July 2024, Adams transferred back to Atherton Collieries,[29] which had been relegated to the Northern Premier League First Division West in his absence.[30] He made a further five appearances before departing in September 2024.[31][32] On 19 October 2024, Adams made a single appearance forWidnes, of the same division,[33] before transferring toNorth West Counties League Premier Division clubLongridge Town.[34]

Kerry

On 29 January 2025, Adams transferred toLeague of Ireland First Division clubKerry.[35] On his debut appearance versusFinn Harps on the opening night of the2025 season, Adams scored the opening goal, but was later sent off for a straightred card in the 2–0 win.[4] He made 29 appearances and scored six goals during the season,[36] which included a run to thesemi-final of theFAI Cup.[37] Adams departed the club after the season.[38]

Mossley

On 7 February 2026, Adams transferred to Northern Premier League First Division West clubMossley.[38]

International career

Adams won 26 caps and scored seven goals for Wales atU17,U19,U20 andU21 levels.[10][39][40][41]
