Joby Harold is an Englishscreenwriter, producer and director who runs Safehouse Pictures with his producing partner,Tory Tunnell. The company was co-founded in 2005.
Harold's latest projects include Paramount'sNovocaine (2025 film) starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, and directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen. Safehouse recently produced the A24 documentary Andre is an Idiot, which received a standing ovation at its premiere at the Sundance film festival where it was in dramatic competition. Harold's projects are the upcoming filmsSpace Mountain[1] andAtlas[2] starringJennifer Lopez,Simu Liu, andSterling K. Brown both of which he will be producing alongside Tunnell. He is also working onMonarch: Legacy of Monsters[3] withLegendary starringKurt Russell,Wyatt Russell, Ren Watabe,Anna Sawai, andKiersey Clemons. Harold is developing the movieI.F.[4] withMike Mitchell attached to direct andTiffany Haddish set to star.
Recently, he wrote and Executive Produced the seriesObi-Wan Kenobi forDisney+[5] and also worked onTransformers: Rise of the Beasts, the last in thelive actionTransformers film series, forParamount Pictures as a sequel toBumblebee, along with a sci-fi thrillerCloaker forWarner Bros., whichSafehouse Pictures is producing. Previously, he executive producedJohn Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, after writing onJohn Wick: Chapter 2. He also executive producedEdge of Tomorrow forDoug Liman, starringTom Cruise andEmily Blunt as well as co-writingKing Arthur: Legend of the Sword starringCharlie Hunnam andJude Law, which he andTory Tunnell produced under theirSafehouse banner. He also wrote a draft for the upcoming superhero movieThe Flash, as part of theDC Extended Universe whichMatthew Vaughn andRobert Zemeckis were formally circling to direct, followed bySam Raimi,Marc Webb, andPhil Lord and Chris Miller. He co-wrote the zombie movieArmy of the Dead, alongside directorZack Snyder andShay Hatten, which was released on Netflix in May 2021.
His company Safehouse Pictures is producing several projects including theBattle of Britain for directorRidley Scott,Liberators withMichael B. Jordan attached to star,Patricia Arquette’s directorial debutLove Canal, and the feature adaptation ofSpace Invaders. In television, Harold produced the female dramaSpinning Out at Netflix, starringJanuary Jones andKaya Scodelario. She previously was a partner with Weed Road Pictures, until they struck a deal with Sony in 2015.[6]
He previously executive produced the WGN seriesUnderground. Harold broke into a business in 2005, writing and directing the filmAwake forThe Weinstein Company, starringHayden Christensen,Jessica Alba,Terrence Howard andLena Olin, which Tunnell also produced.
