Joaquín Torres is acharacter appearing inAmerican comic books published byMarvel Comics. Created by writerNick Spencer and artistDaniel Acuña, the characterfirst appeared inCaptain America: Sam Wilson #1 (October 2015).^[1] He is aMexican-American superhero fromSonoita, Arizona known under the codenameFalcon.^[2] The character is a human-bird-vampire hybrid.^[3][4]

Torres was kidnapped by the criminal scientistKarl Malus while aiding migrants at the border. Malus spliced hisDNA with that ofRedwing, the bird companion ofSam Wilson, the then-Captain America.^[5] The experiment granted Torres a range of superpowers, including wings, enhanced vision, accelerated healing, and a psychic link with Redwing.^[6] After adapting to his new abilities, Torres took on the mantle of Falcon and later allied with various heroes, including theChampions.^[7]

Since his original introduction in comics, Torres has been featured in various other Marvel-licensed products, includingvideo games,animatedtelevision series, and merchandise.Danny Ramirez portrays thecharacter in theMarvel Cinematic Universe miniseriesThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and the filmCaptain America: Brave New World (2025).

Joaquín Torres debuted inCaptain America: Sam Wilson #1 (October 2015), created byNick Spencer andDaniel Acuña.^[8] Torres made his first appearance as aphotograph in the comic book and made his official debut in issue #3.^[9] He appeared in the 2022Captain America: Symbol of Truth series.^[10]

Sam Wilson / Captain America investigates the disappearance of Mexican teenager Joaquín Torres after he is abducted by theSons of the Serpent.^[11] Captain America discovers that Torres is being used in the experiments ofKarl Malus, who usesRedwing to transform him into a bird/human hybrid. After Malus is defeated, Captain America takes Torres in.^[12] However, he learns that Torres possesses a healing factor derived from Redwing'svampire abilities that prevents him from being returned to normal.^{[13][14][15][16][17]} After theSerpent Society is defeated, Captain America allows Torres to become his sidekick and the new Falcon.^[18] During the "Secret Empire" storyline, Falcon andIronheart join theChampions.^[19]

As a human-falcon hybrid, Joaquín Torres developed wings, feathered arms, enhanced vision, and claw-like talons. Due to Redwing's vampiric nature, he also gained an accelerated healing factor, allowing him to recover quickly from severe injuries. Additionally, Torres shares a psychic link with Redwing, enabling communication with Sam Wilson through the bird.^[20]

Joaquín Torres / Falcon makes a cameo appearance in theAvengers Assemble episode "Into the Future" as a resistance fighter from a future ruled byKang the Conqueror.^[21]

Joaquín Torres appears in media set in theMarvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), portrayed byDanny Ramirez.^{[22][23][13][14]} This version is a humanAir Force lieutenant.^{[24][25][26][27]} Following his first appearance in the miniseriesThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), Torres takes on the Falcon mantle in the filmCaptain America: Brave New World (2025)^[28][29] and will return in the filmAvengers: Doomsday.^[30]
