Joanne "Jo"M. Stepaniak (born January 7, 1954)[1] is an American writer specializing inveganism and nutrition.[2] She is the author of several books on the subject, includingThe Vegan Sourcebook (1998).[3][4]
Stepaniak's parents were Edna Abrams Greenberg and Herbert S. Abrams of Pennsylvania and has two sisters.[5] She became avegetarian as a child. After her marriage she became a vegan for ethical reasons.[6] She describes herself as a "kale-aholic" as she enjoys eatingkale andcollard greens.[6] For over 31 years she has been Supervising Editor atBook Publishing Company inSummertown, Tennessee.[7]
She was elected to the Vegetarian Hall of Fame in June 2008 inJohnstown, Pennsylvania, at the 34thAnnual Vegetarian Summerfest of theNorth American Vegetarian Society.[8]
Stepaniak and her husband Michael live inPittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
