Joan Tomàs Campasol (born 17 May 1985), known asJoan Tomàs, is a Spanish former professionalfootballer. Mainly aleft-winger, he could also operate as astriker.
Born inGirona,Catalonia, Joan Tomàs was an unsuccessful graduate fromEspanyol's youth ranks, after which he moved to neighboursLleida in theSegunda División B. Afterone season withAlicante in the same tier, which ended in promotion,[1] he joinedVillarreal.
Even though already 23, Joan Tomàs spent over a year registered with theB side, and made his first-team – andLa Liga – debut on 1 February 2009, in a 3–0 away loss againstDeportivo de La Coruña.[2] During the2008–09 campaign, also, he was one of the most important elements for the reserves as they eventually achieved a first-ever promotion toSegunda División.[3][4]
In the summer of 2010, Joan Tomàs left Villarreal and signed forCelta of the second division.[5] He contributed five goals[6][7][8][9][10] in 37 matches in hissecond year, as theGalicians returned to the top flight after a five-year absence. He played just 24 minutes at the higher level, before he was released from his contract by mutual consent.[11]
Joan Tomàs then joinedAEK Larnaca of theCypriot First Division,[12] with whom he spent six years. In January 2019, he signed forLamia ofSuper League Greece.[13] On 28 February, he scored with a scuffed shot to beatOlympiacos goalkeeperYury Lodygin in a 1–0 away win that qualified for thesemi-finals of theGreek Football Cup 4–3 on aggregate.[14] In July, he renewed his link for one season.[15]
Joan Tomàs moved countries again in late August 2019, with the 34-year-old agreeing to a deal atLiga 1 (Indonesia) clubPersija Jakarta.[16] He retired in 2023 after two seasons with amateursCF Peralada in his native region, immediately being appointed their assistant manager.[17]
