Joachim Yaw Acheampong (born 2 November 1973 inAccra), known asYaw, is aGhanaian retiredfootballer who played as amidfielder.
In his country Yaw representedGoldfields Obuasi (1990–94),Power FC (1999–2000) andKing Faisal Babes (2001). Abroad he played forIFK Norrköping in Sweden (1994–95), Spain'sReal Sociedad (1995–97) andHércules CF (1997–98) andSamsunspor (1998) andYimpaş Yozgatspor (2001–02) from Turkey.
Yaw retired from professional football at the age of only 28.
Yaw was part of theGhanaian Olympic team who won thebronze medal at the1992 Summer Olympics inBarcelona. He featured in five of six games in the tournament.[1]
Yaw gained 18caps with the full side, during five years. He appeared in twoAfrica Cup of Nations editions.
