Joël Mohammed Ramzan Piroe (born 2 August 1999) is a Dutch professionalfootballer who plays as aforward forEFL Championship clubLeeds United.
Piroe started playing football at the age of five for SCE Nijmegen and played youth football forQuick 1888 andSC Woezik, after which he was signed to the youth academy ofNEC. He first played as aleft-back andleft midfielder. The coach of the under-12 team of NEC chose to play Piroe as aforward, due to the many goals he scored.[2] He then moved to the youth academy ofFeyenoord, and a year later – in 2014 – joined thePSV academy. He signed his first professional contract with theEindhoven-based club in November 2016.[3]
Piroe made his professional debut in theEerste Divisie forJong PSV on 2 December 2016 in a game againstAchilles '29.[4]
PSV sent Piroe on a one-year loan toSparta Rotterdam in August 2019.[5] He made his debut in theEredivisie on 25 August 2019, coming on forRagnar Ache in the 60th minute away againstPEC Zwolle – a game which ended in a 2–2 draw.[6]
On 2 July 2021, Piroe moved to Wales to joinSwansea City on a three-year deal, joining for an undisclosed fee,[7] reported to be in the region of £1 million with the potential to rise up to £2 million.[8] He scored on his Swansea debut in anEFL Cup tie againstReading on 10 August 2021.[9]
On 24 August 2023, Leeds United signed Piroe on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee,[10] believed to be above £10 million.[11] He scored on his Leeds debut againstIpswich on 26 August 2023 in a 4–3 victory.[12]
Born in the Netherlands, Piroe is of Surinamese descent.[13]
