James Joseph Baio (born March 15, 1962) is an American former actor.[1] He began acting on TV at the age of 13. Baio is best known for playing Billy Tate onSoap. His last role was in the 1996 filmThe Mirror Has Two Faces.
Baio first appeared onscreen in 1975 at age 13. He madeguest appearances on series such asThe Facts of Life,Fantasy Island andThe Love Boat, but his best known role was as Billy Tate on the comedy seriesSoap (1977–81).[2]
Baio's other credits includeMatlock,Trapper John, M.D.,Matt Houston,Too Close for Comfort andFamily Feud. Baio, along withSusan Richardson, participated in theJunior Pyramid special ofThe $20,000 Pyramid in 1979. He also appeared in the comedy movieThe Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977) as Carmen Ronzonni.[3]
He was born inBrooklyn,New York. He is the cousin of actorScott Baio[4] andVampire Weekend band memberChris Baio. He is also the uncle of Major League Baseball playerHarrison Bader.
