James Prokopiak[2] (bornc. 1974[3]) is an American politician who is currently the representative for the140th District in thePennsylvania House of Representatives.
From 2002 to 2009, Prokopiak served as a supervisor inFalls Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.[3] In 2006, he ran to represent the140th District in thePennsylvania House of Representatives,[4] losing theDemocratic primary toJohn Galloway.[5] Prokopiak was elected to thePennsbury School Board in 2021.[6] After Galloway resigned in December 2023 to assume a local judicial office, Prokopiak forwarded his name to the Bucks County Democratic Party to be considered for the party's nomination in the successive special election. Out of a field of three candidates,[3][7] Prokopiak was unanimously chosen by the party's executive board.[3] He defeatedRepublican candidate Candace Cabanas in the February 2024 special election.[8]
Prokopiak ispro-choice and supports codifying abortion rights into thePennsylvania Constitution. He also supports theright to health. Prokopiak opposesschool voucher programs and instead supports more consistent funding for public schools.[9] He supports legalizing marijuana and raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.[10]
Prokopiak graduated fromUpper Moreland High School in 1992. He earned abachelor of arts degree in political science fromWest Chester University in 1996 and ajuris doctor degree fromTemple University School of Law in 2000. Prokopiak and his wife, Gail Humphrey,[11] have three children and reside inLevittown, Pennsylvania.[12]
