Jillian Leigh Bell[1] (born April 25, 1984)[2][3] is an American actress, comedian, and screenwriter. She was a writer for the35th season of theNBCsketch comedy seriesSaturday Night Live between 2009 and 2010. Since her departure fromSNL, she has had starring roles in the filmsBrittany Runs a Marathon (2019) andI'm Totally Fine (2022). She has also appeared on television, starring as Jillian Belk onWorkaholics, voicing Violet Hart onBless the Harts,[4] and in a recurring role as Dixie on the final season ofEastbound & Down. Her other film credits include22 Jump Street (2014),Fist Fight (2017),Godmothered (2020), andCandy Cane Lane (2023). Bell is engaged to illustrator and musicianLuke McGarry.[5]

Early life

Bell was born and raised inHenderson, Nevada.[6][7] She began studyingimprov at age eight.[8] She graduated fromBishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas in 2002,[9] moved toLos Angeles, and became a member of the comedy groupThe Groundlings.[6]

Career

She auditioned forSaturday Night Live, and although she did not join the cast, she became a writer for the show in 2009 for its35th season.[6] Also in 2009, she appeared in an episode ofCurb Your Enthusiasm as an assistant wearing revealing clothing at work.[8]

In 2011, she began playing Jillian Belk on theComedy Central seriesWorkaholics. Film directorPaul Thomas Anderson saw her in it and gave her a small role in his 2012 filmThe Master, then another small role in his 2014 filmInherent Vice.[6] She had a recurring role as Dixie in the fourth and final season ofEastbound & Down. In 2014, she appeared in22 Jump Street withJonah Hill andChanning Tatum.[10] In 2015, she co-starred inGoosebumps andThe Night Before.

In January 2016, Bell portrayed the constantly misbehaving adult daughter of wealthy parents in aComedy Central series,Idiotsitter. It was originally launched as a web series in early 2014.[11] She starred as theFairy Godmother inDisney'sGodmothered, a film released onDisney+ in 2020 and also starringIsla Fisher.[12]
