Jiaohe (Chinese:蛟河;pinyin:Jiāohé) is a middle-sizedcounty-level city in east-centralJilin province, People's Republic of China, borderingHeilongjiang to the northeast. It is under the administration ofJilin City, 65 kilometres (40 mi) to the west, and it is well known for its production of tobacco. The mayor of the city is Wang Gang (王钢).

Thesister city (or twin town) of Jiaohe isFolsom, California, United States.

Administrative divisions

The city administers 7subdistricts, 8towns, 1township, and 1ethnic township.[2]

The city's 7 subdistricts areMinzhu Subdistrict [zh],Chang'an Subdistrict [zh],Henan Subdistrict,Naizishan Subdistrict [zh],Lafa Subdistrict,Hebei Subdistrict, andXinnong Subdistrict [zh].[2]

The city's 8 towns areXinzhan,Tiangang [zh],Baishishan [zh],Piaohe [zh],Huangsongdian [zh],Tianbei [zh],Songjiang [zh], andQingling [zh].[2]

The city also administersQianjin Township [zh] andWulin Korean Ethnic Township [zh].[2]

Geography

The city borders thecounty-level city ofDunhua to the east,Huadian to the south, andFengman District to the west.[3] TheSonghua River and theMudan River both run through the city.[3]

Climate

Jiaohe has a four-season, monsoon-influenced,humid continental climate (KöppenDwa/Dwb). Winters are long (lasting from November to March), cold, and windy, but dry, due to the influence of theSiberian anticyclone, with a January mean temperature of −18.0 °C (−0.4 °F). Spring and autumn are somewhat short transitional periods, with some precipitation, but are usually dry and windy. Summers are very warm and humid, with a prevailing southeasterly wind due to the East Asian monsoon; July averages 21.6 °C (70.9 °F). Snow is usually light during the winter, and annual rainfall is heavily concentrated from June to August.

Economy

The city's main agricultural products include rice, maize, and beans.[3]

Mineral deposits in Jiaohe includecoal,copper,iron,nickel,granite,kyanite,diatomite,peat, anddolomite.[3]

Transport

TheChangchun-Tumen railway [zh], and theLafa–Harbin railway both run through the city.[3]

The city's main thoroughfares includeNational Highway 302 and Jilin Provincial Highway 204.[3]
