Jerry Edward Meyers (February 21, 1954 – November 16, 2007) was an American professionalfootballdefensive tackle who played for theChicago Bears and theKansas City Chiefs of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football atNorthern Illinois University.[1][2]
Meyers grew up inChicago, Illinois, and attendedLake View High School where he was selected all-division in 1970.[3][4] He playedcollege football for theNorthern Illinois Huskies and was a three-yearletterman, being a teamcaptain as asenior and ending his college career with 269tackles.[3] He was later inducted into the Northern Illinois Hall of Fame and was chosen to the school's All-Century team in 2000.[3]
Meyers, drafted by his hometownChicago Bears in the 15th round of the1976 NFL draft, survived being released numerous times to play four seasons and 47 games with the team.[5][6][7][8] He recorded onefumble recovery and unofficially made 5.5sacks with the Bears, later playing two games with theKansas City Chiefs in 1980 before retiring.[1] He had a brief stint with theChicago Blitz of theUnited States Football League (USFL) in1983 but did not appear in any games.[3]
Meyers died on November 16, 2007, at the age of 53.[3]
