Jerry Dexter (April 18, 1935 – June 21, 2013) was an American actor and radio presenter best known for playing teenage boys and young men inanimated television series forHanna-Barbera Productions from the late 1960s to the 1980s.
Dexter was bornJerry Morris Chrisman inSan Francisco,California.[1][2]
He began his radio career atKENO inLas Vegas,Nevada, in 1958.[3] After a stop atKVI inSeattle,Washington, Dexter relocated toLos Angeles, California, andKMPC in late 1959.[4] He took his show,The Dexter Affair, in October 1962 toKLAC radio in Los Angeles.[5]
In 1964, Dexter had a semi-regular role, playing Corporal Johnson inGomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. He moved into a full-time television job in June 1968 with the launch ofGood Day L.A. onKABC-TV.[6]
Dexter's first cartoon voice work was in 1967 as Chuck inShazzan. Among his roles were Gary Gulliver inThe Adventures of Gulliver,Alan inJosie and the Pussycats, Ted inGoober and the Ghost Chasers, Hal inSealab 2020, Biff inFangface, Drak Jr. inDrak Pack,Superboy in an episode ofSuper Friends, andSunfire inSpider-Man and His Amazing Friends. He also voiced characters forFilmation Studios during the late 1960s, most notably as the voice ofAqualad in the seriesAquaman. He later guest-starred onChallenge of the GoBots, the 1980s revival ofThe Jetsons, as well asWildfire,Snorks,DuckTales andFantastic Max.[citation needed]
Dexter resided in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
Dexter died on June 21, 2013, following complications from a fall.[7]
