Jenny Hagel (born 1976 or 1977)[1] is an American comedian and comedy writer. She is a writer and performer forLate Night with Seth Meyers, known for appearing in the recurring segment "Jokes Seth Can't Tell", along with hostSeth Meyers andAmber Ruffin, a fellow writer-performer.[2][3][4] Hagel serves as an executive producer and head writer onThe Amber Ruffin Show onPeacock. In 2022, Hagel and Ruffin co-founded a production company, Straight to Cards, under their overall deal withUniversal Television.[5]

Career

Hagel graduated from theCollege of William & Mary inWilliamsburg, Virginia. She then received a MFA degree in Writing for the Screen and Stage from theNorthwestern University School of Communication at Northwestern inEvanston, Illinois, in 2009. David E. Tolchinsky was one of her professors there.[2] She performed improv and sketch comedy atThe Second City inChicago for five years before moving toManhattan, New York.[6]

In addition toLate Night with Seth Meyers, she has written for multiple other comedy TV shows, includingImpractical Jokers, theBig Gay Sketch Show, and theMTV show10 on Top. She was formerly the head writer for10 on Top.[7] In 2020, she became the inaugural head writer forThe Amber Ruffin Show on Peacock.[8] In 2022, she was nominated for aGLAAD Award for work addressing LGBTQ issues on theLate Night show.[9]

Personal life

Hagel is the daughter of Virginia and JudgeLawrence B. Hagel.[1][9] She is ofPuerto Rican descent. She lives inBrooklyn[10] with her son and wifeJennifer Vanasco.[1][9]
