'Long Live Sindh United Front') is one of several major[8][9]separatist political parties inSindh,Pakistan, that advocate for the separation ofSindhudesh fromPakistan. Founded in the year 2000, by the veteran Sindhi nationalists belonging to the Sindhudesh movement who leftJSQM.[10] The founder and the current Chairman of partyShafi Muhammad Burfat is living in exile inGermany underpolitical asylum.[11]
Pakistani Law Enforcement Agencies have been accusing JSMM for violence in theprovince[12] and it had been also reported that prior to his asylum in Germany, the Party ChairmanShafi Muhammad Burfat had been living inKabul,Afghanistan.[1] On March 15, 2013, through an officialdecree,Pakistan's Home Ministryproscribed JSMM as a terrorist organization and banned itsfreedom of association and speech.[5]
A significant rise in the Human Rights violations inSindh have frequently been witnessed in previous years and Human rights campaigners are thoroughly concerned about theenforced disappearances andextra-judicial killings of JSMM leaders and activists.[5] FormerSecretary General of JSMMMuzafar Bhutto was abducted and killed by Pakistani Agencies.[13] Senior vice chairman of JSMM Sirai Qurban Khohaver and three others were set ablaze nearSanghar,Sindh.[14]
Shafi Burfat and other party leaders leftJSQM in 2000, and formed new outfit ofSindhudesh freedom movement namely JSMM on November 26, 2000 atSann. This was announced in the "Jeay Sindh Workers Conference" convened by the nationalist leadersShafi Muhammad Burfat, Samiallah Kalhoro,Muzafar Bhutto. Speakers in that conference alleged thatJSQM was not serious regarding the national independence ofSindhudesh.[10]
In the year 2009,Gmist Council (governing institution) of another Sindhi nationalist outfitJSQM (A), decided to merge it withJSMM. But later Chairman ofJeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (A),Abdul Wahid Aresar denied joining theJSMM but most of the party leaders led bySirai Qurban Khahawar left Aresar and joinedJSMM. And thus JSMM soon emerged as the 2nd largest separatist Sindhi organization associated withSindhudesh Freedom Movement.[15]
The highest authority in the party is the Chairman. Officially, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz constitution provides a four-year term for the Chairman. Chairman is elected by National Congress (Higher Authority) of organization. Elected Chairman is authorized to elect the Central Organizational Body from the members of Central Committee.[16]
JSMM regards Sindhi Nationalist,G.M. Syed as an intellect, ideologue and architect of the cause of complete independence ofSindh fromPakistan. It totally rejects theparliamentary way of struggle for getting freedom and strongly advocates all the forms of anti-state movement for the independence ofSindh from Pakistan.[16] It has repeatedly shown its support for the West’s thewar on terror.[17] It has been staging Sindh-wide protests & marches to condemn thePunjabi hegemony over federation and its exploitation of natural and mineral resources ofSindh.[18][19] It also condemns racism and religious intolerance.[20] JSMM holdsPunjab responsible for the water crisis in Sindh & has been rejecting the 1991 water accord.[21] It has also been protesting theCPEC,[9] Mega city projects[22] and influx of outsiders inSindh, demanding cancellation of citizenship and registration for the alien settlers from the other provinces.[23]
The Sindhudesh Liberation Army is a militant organization based in theSindh province ofPakistan, strives to establish an independent state ofSindhuDesh. The group is currently headed by Chief Commander Darya Khan. Pakistan's media also criticized that JSMM's ChairmanShafi Muhammad Burfat is operatingSindhudesh Liberation Army fromKabul.
Two suspected people killed on 5 July 2014, were considered by police to be activists of JSMM. They died when the bomb they were carrying blew after a traffic accident inKarachi.[24] According to police, Abdul Fatah Dahiri and Usman Panhwar were members ofJSMM which may have ties with India's premier intelligence agencyRAW. The Indian intelligence agency might have been trying to targetUN designated terroristHafiz Muhammad Saeed,[25][26] who was having a public rally nearby, using its local agents.[27] Two nationalist activists were rounded up by police, suspecting them of sabotagingCPEC project. Police officials claimed that they had launched attacks tosabotage theChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor with funding from the Indian spy agencyResearch and Analysis Wing.[28]
