Jean-Jacques Nzadi da Conceição (born 3 April 1964, inKinshasa), more commonly known asJ.J. Conceição orJean-Jacques, is an Angolan-Portuguese[1][2] retired professionalbasketball player. A 2.02 m (6'71⁄2"), 100 kg (220 lbs.)power forward, he representedAngola at theAfroBasket, where he won a record seven African titles. At theclub level, he won fiveAngolan League championship titles withPrimeiro de Agosto and fourAngolan Cups, before moving toBenfica in Portugal, where he won sevenPortuguese national championships and threePortuguese Federation Cups. He also went on to play forCSP Limoges in France,Baloncesto Málaga in Spain, and Portugal Telecom in Portugal.
Even though he never played in theNBA, Jean-Jacques enjoyed a successful career in Europe, especially in Portugal, where he won 10Portuguese national championships (7 withBenfica and 3 with Portugal Telecom), 7Portuguese Federation Cups (5 with Benfica and 2 with Portugal Telecom), 5Portuguese Super Cups (4 with Benfica and 1 with Portugal Telecom), and 6Portuguese League Cups (all with Benfica).[3]
As a member of the seniorAngolan national team, Conceição won sevenAfroBasket gold medals, namely in1989,1992,1993,1995,1999,2001, and2003. He also won silver medals in1983 and1985, and a bronze medal in1997.
He also played for his country at theFIBA World Cup in1986,1990, and1994. He also played at theSummer Olympic Games in1992, where he faced the famedDream Team.[4] The Americans won easily, 116-48, but Conceição led the Angolans with ten points, seven rebounds and two assists.
In 2011, in Antananarivo, within the celebrations of the 50th anniversary ofFIBA Africa, Jacques was named themost valuable player in African basketball history.[5][6][7]
On 19 June 2013, Jean-Jacques became aFIBA Hall of Fame player.[8]
