Debaparasad Sarkar ofSUCI(C) has represented the Jaynagar Assembly constituency from 1977 to 2006. He defeated his nearest rivals, Ashish Ghosh ofCPI(M) in 2006,[4] Abdul Hossain Laskar ofCPI(M) in 2001,[5] Rabindranath Basu ofCPI(M) in 1996,[6] Prashanta Sarkhel ofINC in 1991,[7] Kumud Bhattacharya ofICS in 1987[8] and 1982,[9] and Jnantosh Chakraborty ofJanata Party in 1977.[10][11]
Prasun Ghosh ofINC won in 1972.[12] Subodh Banarjee ofSUCI(C) won in 1971,[13] 1969[14] and 1967.[15] In 1962,[16] Jaynagar Assembly constituency had two seats. Jnantosh Chakraborty ofINC won the Jaynagar Uttar seat and Anadi Mohan Tanti ofINC won the Jaynagar Dakshin seat. In 1957 and 1952, Jaynagar Assembly constituency had joint seats. In 1957,[17] Subodh Banerjee and Renupada Halder, both ofSUCI(C), won. In 1952, Subodh Banerjee and Dinataran Moni, both ofSUCI(C), won.[18]
