Jay Kogen is an Americancomedywriter, producer, actor and director.
He was born to aJewish family.[1] His father is comedy writerArnie Kogen. In 2001, Kogen had a son, Charlie, who is now a musician.[2]
Kogen co-wrote several episodes ofThe Tracey Ullman Show andThe Simpsons along with former writing partnerWallace Wolodarsky; he served as a producer (alongside Wolodarsky) for the latter series from its second to its fourth season. Since then, he has written for several shows, including anEmmy Award winning stint atFrasier,Everybody Loves Raymond,George Lopez, andMalcolm in the Middle. Kogen also made an appearance inThe Aristocrats. He was a consulting producer onThe Class, co-writer of theDave Foley/David Anthony Higgins 1997 filmThe Wrong Guy, as well as being a former stand-up comedian. He has also written, rewritten, punched up many films includingEddie Murphy'sThe Nutty Professor, theAustin Powers films, theShrek films,The Cat in the Hat,Madagascar,Zombieland 2, and theAcademy Award-nominatedKubo and the Two Strings.
In 2009, he started working on theNickelodeon TV seriesThe Troop. He is also the creator ofWendell & Vinnie.
In 2015, he became a writer & co-executive producer ofDan Schneider &Dana Olsen's live-action sitcom,Henry Danger.
In 2016, he became a writer, occasional director, and executive producer ofSchool of Rock, a sitcom based on the2003 film of the same name.
On April 15, 2019, Kogen joined other WGA writers in firing their agents as part of theWGA's stand against theATA and the practice ofpackaging.[3]
On December 9, 2020, Kogen and Ali Schouten signed on to develop aniCarly revival series.[4] On February 25, 2021, it was reported that Kogen left the project due to "creative differences" with starMiranda Cosgrove.[5]
