Javier Carpio Martín (born 6 April 1984) is a Spanish former professionalfootballer who played as aright-back.

He appeared in 243Segunda División matches in eight seasons, representingElche,Ponferradina,Alavés andCádiz and winning promotion toLa Liga with the third of those clubs.

Club career

Born inSalamanca,Castile and León, Carpio was anUD Salamanca youth graduate. After making his debut as a senior withthe reserves in the2003–04 season, he moved toDeportivo Alavés in 2004.

Carpio appeared for theBasques'C andB teams during his tenure, the latter competing in theSegunda División B. Subsequently, he joinedTercera División clubMazarrón CF in 2006.

Following a one-year spell atPinatar CF also in the fourth level, Carpio signed for division three sideCD Alcoyano. He was an undisputed starter in his two seasons,[2] missing out on play-off promotion in both of them.[3][4]

On 23 July 2010, Carpio was presented atElche CF fromSegunda División.[5] He played his first match as a professional on 28 August at the age of 26, coming on as a latesubstitute forJordi Xumetra in a 1–0 home win againstRecreativo de Huelva.[6]

First-choice in hisdebut campaign at theEstadio Manuel Martínez Valero, Carpio eventually lost his spot to new signingJavier Flaño inthe second. Subsequently, he was released.[7]

Carpio joinedSD Ponferradina of the same league in summer 2012.[8] After three years as a regular starter, he moved toDeportivo Alavés also in the second tier.[9] He contributed 34 appearances duringthe season, helping to a return toLa Liga after a ten-year absence.[10]

On 16 July 2016, Carpio joinedCádiz CF still in the second division.[11] He moved down a tier in January 2019, agreeing to a contract atSalamanca CF UDS.[12]

Carpio saw out his career aged 39, having signed forPalencia CF in theCastile and León regional leagues in late 2020 and achieving promotion toTercera Federación one year later.[13][14]
