Jaques Wagner (Brazilian Portuguese:[ˈʒaksˈvaɡneʁ]; born 16 March 1951) is a Brazilian politician who wasGovernor ofBahia from 2007 to 2015[1] andMinister of Defence[2] in 2015.

Wagner, whose parents wereJewish immigrants from Poland, was born inRio de Janeiro in 1951. In his youth, he was a member of theLabor Zionist youth organizationHabonim Dror. He was a founding member of theWorkers' Party (PT), as well as theCentral Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), aunion which has organized more than seven million members. He won reelection in the2010 Bahia gubernatorial election.[3][4]

Since 2019, he serves as aSenator for the state of Bahia.[5]
