Jaques Sterne

Jaques Sterne[1] (29 June 1695 inWoodhouse – 9 June 1759 inRise) was a cleric and politician in the mid 18th century.[2]He was educated atJesus College, Cambridge.[3] He wasordained in 1720. He heldlivings atRise andHornsea. He wasArchdeacon of Cleveland from 1735 until 1750; and then ofEast Riding from 1750 until 1755. HisAlumni Cantabrigienses entry describes him as a

"A well known and eccentric figure in York- a violent Whig politician"
