Janoah orJanohah (Hebrew:יָנוֹחַYānōaḥ) is the name of one or more places mentioned in theBible.[1]
Janohah means "he rests" inHebrew.[2]
TheBook of Joshua (Joshua 16:6, 7), places a Janohah on the northern border of theTribe of Ephraim: "the border went about eastward unto Taanathshiloh, and passed by it on the east to Janohah; And it went down from Janohah toAtaroth". The site of Janohah is thought by some to be atYanun or nearby Khirbet Yanun, but this is not certain.[3][4]
A Janohah is also mentioned in theSecond Book of Kings (2 Kings 15:29): "cameTiglath-Pileser I king ofAssyria, and tookIjon, andAbel-beth-maachah, and Janoah, andKedesh, andHazor, andGilead, andGalilee, all the land ofNaphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria".[5][6]
