Jan Tobias Köstering (born 22 October 1997) is aGerman politician and member of theBundestag.[1] A member ofThe Left, he has representedNorth Rhine-Westphalia since March 2025.
Köstering was born on 22 October 1997 inRatingen.[1][2] He was educated at the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Gymnasium in Ratingen.[3] He was a member of theYoung Socialists in the SPD (Jusos).[3] He graduated from high school in 2016 and moved toNümbrecht.[3] He is amechatronics engineer.[4][5] He is a member ofRote Hilfe e.V.,Association of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime – Federation of Antifascists (VVN-BdA),Unser Oberberg ist bunt andIG Metall.[6]
Köstering joinedThe Left in 2017 and is a member of the party's state executive inNorth Rhine-Westphalia.[5][7] He is a member of the Nümbrecht Municipal Council, Oberberg District Council and the part's spokesman inOberberg.[4][5][6] He contested the2022 North Rhine-Westphalia state election but the party failed to win any seats in theLandtag of North Rhine-Westphalia.[2][6] He was The Left's candidate inOberbergischer Kreis (constituency 98) at the2025 federal election but was not elected.[8] He was however elected to theBundestag on The Left'sstate list in North Rhine-Westphalia.[4][9]
