Jan Jongbloed[a] (25 November 1940 – 30 August 2023) was a Dutch professionalfootballer who played as agoalkeeper. He played for theNetherlands national team, having represented the country at the1974 and1978 FIFA World Cups, where theOranje finished as runners-up in both cases.
Born inAmsterdam, Jongbloed played forDWS (then rebranded asFC Amsterdam),Roda JC andGo Ahead Eagles.[1] He played a total amount of 717 professional games,[1][2] and made the second-highest number of appearances in the history of theEredivisie, behind onlyPim Doesburg.[3]
Jongbloed retired in 1986, at the age of 45, due to aheart attack he had suffered during an official match between Go Ahead Eagles andHFC Haarlem.[3][4] After his retirement from playing, he worked as a football coach.[4][5]
Jongbloed made 24 appearances for theNetherlands senior national team, winning his first cap in 1962 and the last in the1978 FIFA World Cup final.[5][6][7]
Jongbloed represented the Netherlands at the1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cups.[4][8]
As a youth, he was awinger.When he was keeping, he become one of the pioneer ofsweeper-keeper, which style of play matched thetotaalvoetbal with his feet ability. Anticipated 40 years of this style, when nowadays, a lot of keepers suchManuel Neuer,Alisson and many others, being crucial of football innovation.

Jongbloed was married twice and twice divorced;[9] he had a daughter, Nicole,[9] and a son, Eric.[4][10] The latter also went on to play football as a goalkeeper for DWS; however, during a match on 23 September 1984,[10] he was fatally struck by lightning, aged 21.[4][10]
Jongbloed died on 30 August 2023, at the age of 82.[2][4][8]
