
Jamie Smart (born 21 July 1978) is a British comic artist and author best known for his comic seriesBunny vs Monkey and his 10-issue comic seriesBear. Most of his modern comics run throughThe Phoenix magazine.
He is known for his children's cartoon seriesBunny VS. Monkey,[1][2] running inThe Phoenix,[3][4] created originally by Smart for a TV show.[5] Other strips he has worked on at The Phoenix includeMegalomaniacs, a repurposed The Dandy comic,[6] Battlesuit Bea andLooshkin.
He was instrumental in the design of the October 2010 revamp ofThe Dandy and designing the new logos. For the revamp, Smart drewDesperate Dan,Pre-Skool Prime Minister,Arena of Awesome,My Dad's a Doofus (as well as many others) with reprints ofMy Own Genie andSpace Raoul later being used.[7][8]His blue blobs have been part ofThe Dandy cover since October 2010 and appeared in The Digital Dandy during its run.
For the final print edition ofThe Dandy on its 75th anniversary, Jamie Smart drew the special cover as well as drawingMy Own Genie,My Dad's a Doofus,Pre-Skool Prime Minister andMy Teacher's a Walrus in the Top 75 Countdown. A reprint fromThe Arena of Awesome was also used.
Smart drewThe Numskulls andKingo Bango for the relaunched Digital Dandy until its demise. Smart also appeared regularly inThe Beano drawing puzzle pages and took over drawingRoger the Dodger fromBarrie Appleby, which as of April 2014, he no longer draws. He also drew a new strip for the comic calledEl Poco Loco in 2013.
In 2015, Smart started to publish his megalomaniac comics on the now defunct children's social media appPopJam.[6] It's unclear if the comics published were reused from the dandy or original.
Self-published comics includeMoose Kid Comics, a free online all-ages anthology.[9][10][11]
In October 2019,[12] Smart's first illustrated novel,Flember: The Secret Book was released byDavid Fickling Books, which had previously published his collections of "Bunny VS Monkey" and "Looshkin".[13] This was followed by the release ofFlember: The Crystal Caves andFlember: The Glowing Skull. Jamie smart also wrote the webcomic"Corporate Skull, which was published on The Guardian newspaper website.[14]
