James H. McClellan (born 5 October 1947) is the ByersProfessor ofSignal Processing at theGeorgia Institute of Technology. He is widely known for his creation of the McClellantransform and for his co-authorship of theParks–McClellan filter design algorithm.[1]
James McClellan was born on October 5, 1947, inGuam. McClellan received his B.S. inElectrical Engineering fromLouisiana State University in 1969.[2] He went on to receive an M.S. (1972) and a Ph.D. (1973) fromRice University.[2]
In 1973, he joined the research staff ofMIT'sLincoln Laboratory. In 1975, he became a professor at MIT'sElectrical Engineering and Computer Science department before leaving to joinSchlumberger. Since 1987, he has been at theGeorgia Institute of Technology. Prof. McClellan is a Fellow of theIEEE.[1] He received theAcoustics,Speech, andSignal Processing Technical Achievement Award in 1987,[2] the IEEE Signal Processing Society Award in 1996,[2] and theIEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal in 2004 (together withThomas W. Parks).[3][4]
