TheJames F. D. Lanier Residence, also known as theJames F. D. and Harriet Lanier House is a historic house at 123East 35th Street betweenPark andLexington Avenues in theMurray Hill neighborhood ofManhattan,New York City.

History

The residence was built in 1901–03, replacing two older houses on the site, and was designed in theBeaux-Arts style byHoppin & Koen, who had studied at theÉcole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and worked in the office ofMcKim, Mead & White.[2] The home was built forJames F. D. Lanier, son of bankerCharles D. Lanier, and his wifeHarriet Bishop Lanier, daughter ofHeber R. Bishop. It has a floor area of 11,638 sq ft (1,081.2 m2).

The house was designated aNew York City landmark in 1979 and was added to theNational Register of Historic Places in 1982.[3]

The house was listed for sale by Christie’s Real Estate in April 2022 for $33 million.[4] The owner at the time was Bassam Alghanim, the Kuwaiti billionaire co-owner of theAlghanim Industries conglomerate.[5]
