James Arnold Taylor (born July 22, 1969),[1] also known by his initialsJAT,[2] is an American voice and television actor. He is known for voicingRatchet in theRatchet & Clank franchise,Fred Flintstone in various commercials,Tidus in theFinal Fantasy X series, Shuyin inFinal Fantasy X-2,Obi-Wan Kenobi in variousStar Wars media beginning withStar Wars: Clone Wars, Wooldoor Sockbat inDrawn Together (2004–2007), and the titular character in the animated seriesJohnny Test (2005–2014) and itsrevival (2021–2022).

Early life and career

Taylor grew up inSanta Barbara, California.[3] He dropped out of high school.[4] Taylor started performingstand up comedy at the age of 16. He later became a radio DJ and comedy writer for various radio personalities such asJonathon Brandmeier,Mancow,Rick Dees andHoward Stern. Taylor eventually became a production director where he was focused on radio commercials. He decided to become a voice actor after doing a radio commercial with voice actorDon Messick.[5] Taylor decided to use his full name to distinguish himself from singerJames Taylor due toScreen Actors Guild guidelines.[6][7]

Voice acting career

Taylor began his animation voice acting career around 1995, appearing in numerous roles includingRatchet in theRatchet & Clank video game series andTidus fromFinal Fantasy X. From 2005 until 2011, Taylor voicedFred Flintstone in commercials and promotional material following the death of Fred Flintstone's previous voice actor,Henry Corden in 2005.[8] He was also the voice of the titular character onJohnny Test. Taylor is currently the announcer forFox’sAnimation Domination.[9]

In 2013, Taylor published the bookJAT 365: 365 Inspirations for the Pursuit of Your Dreams.[2] In 2018, he began the podcastTalking to Myself.[10]

Personal life

Taylor is married. As of 2017, his wife Allison is also his manager.[11][12] Together they have a daughter, Lydia, who was adopted from China.[13] He starred inAnimal Crackers alongside his daughter.[14][15]

Taylor is aChristian and has discussed his faith on several occasions. He contracted ablack mold infection in 2005 which nearly caused him to lose his voice and took almost a year to recover.[16]
