Jakub Brabec (born 6 August 1992) is a Czech professionalfootballer who plays as acentre-back forPrimeira Liga clubRio Ave and theCzech national team.

Club career

Brabec was part of theyouth system atSparta Prague, but having been released in summer 2008, he joinedViktoria Žižkov, anotherPrague-based club.[1] He was promoted to the Žižkov first team during the2008–09 Czech First League season, when he was still at school.[2] He made one league appearance for the club in this season, playing a full match againstViktoria Plzen as a 16-year-old in a 2–0 defeat.[3]

In the2009–10 season, Brabec played a further 14 games for Žižkov, who were then playing in the second tierCzech 2. Liga. One of the fourteen appearances was as a substitute. In one match in this season againstFC Zenit Čáslav, he received a 31st-minute red card.[3] He made six appearances in the Czech 2. Liga in the following2010–11 season, four of which were as a substitute. He helped Žižkov achieve a second-place league finish and promotion back to the Czech First League.[3]

Brabec returned to Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee in June 2011.[4][5] He toldUEFA.com that his primary motivation for making the transfer was that he was a childhood fan of his former club and that he would have a better chance of playing in theUEFA Cup and theUefa Champions League.[6] He started the 2011–12 season with the reserve team, Sparta Prague II, who compete in the 2. Liga.

On 31 August 2016, Brabec signed a four-year contract withGenk.[7]

Aris

On 31 August 2021,Aris officially announced the signing of Brabec for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.[8] On 18 October 2021, he scored his first goal sealing a precious 1–0 away win againstLamia.[9]

On 13 March 2023, Brabec signed a contract extension with the club until summer 2026.[10]

On 8 September 2025, Brabec signed a two-year contract withPrimeira Liga clubRio Ave.[11]

International career

Brabec has represented theCzech Republic at youth international level. He scored his first national goal on his third and final appearance for theCzech Republic under-18s in a 3–1 loss to theAustria under-18s in a March 2010friendly match.[12]

Later in 2009, he made his debut for theCzech Republic under-19s in a 4–0 win over theMalta under-19s.[12][13]

Brabec was selected as captain of the Czech Republic under-19s squad for the2011 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.[6] His first goal at under-19 level came in this tournament. He scored a header in a group game tournament fixture against theRepublic of Ireland under-19s to equalise 1–1 on 23 July 2011; the Czechs went on to win 2–1.[14] The Czech Republic finished the tournament as losing finalists to Spain.[15]

Senior

On 29 March 2016, Brabec debuted for the Czech national team under coachPavel Vrba in Czech Republic senior team in a friendly match againstSweden, ending in a 1–1 draw.[16]

On 11 October 2019, Brabec scored his first goal in aUEFA Euro 2020 qualifying match againstEngland, resulting in a 2-1 victory for the Czechs.[17]

On 19 November 2023, along withVladimír Coufal andJan Kuchta, Brabec has been kicked out of the Czech Republic's national team camp after they allegedly going outclubbing two days before theEuro 2024 qualifier match againstMoldova.[18]
