Thakur Jaideva Singh (19 September 1893[nb 1] inShoratgarh,Uttar Pradesh[2] – 27 May 1986 in[3]Banaras) was an Indianmusicologist andphilosopher. He played a key role in the development ofAll India Radio where he was chief producer.[4][5] He was influenced by the IndianmusicologistVishnu Narayan Bhatkhande.[6]
Singh was a scholar in theKashmir Saivism school ofIndian philosophy,[7][8] a subject he studied for many years withSwami Lakshman Joo inKashmir. He prepared and published first-ever English and Hindi translations of a number of Shaivite scriptures.[9] Singh was appointed as the Chairman of theUttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1973. He was awarded thePadma Bhushan in 1974 for his contribution to music.Thakur Jaideva Singh, has contributed numerous papers on music. He studied vocal music with Srikrishna Harihirlekar and Nankoo Bhaya Telang; was elected a Fellow of the Sangeet Natak Akademy in 1965; was honoured byAkhil Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya Mandal and awarded Padma Bhushan by the President of India in 1974.
