Jaguarão (Portuguese pronunciation:[ʒaɡwɐˈɾɐ̃w]) is amunicipality in the southern Brazilian state ofRio Grande do Sul located on the shores of theJaguarão River, borderingUruguay.

It lies a short distance inland from theMirim Lagoon.

Geographical and historical proximity to Uruguay

In 1865 it was the site of theBattle of Jaguarão, fought against Uruguayan forces.

Located in the extreme south of Brazil and the border withUruguay, theBaron of Mauá International Bridge links it withRío Branco.
