Jack Kao (Chinese:高捷;pinyin:Gāo Jié;Pe̍h-ōe-jī:Ko Chia̍t, born 23 April 1958) is aTaiwanese actor.[1]
He began his career in the late 1980s films ofHou Hsiao-hsien. Kao credits his success to the many real-life gangsters he knew when he was young.[2] He appeared inCity of Sadness, a film aboutTaiwan's White Terror, which received the 1989Golden Lion award theVenice Film Festival. Another of his films about that same period, 2009'sPrince of Tears, was also included in the festival.[3] His 2001 filmMillennium Mambo was featured in theFilm Society of Lincoln Center's 2016 retrospective "Going Steadi: 40 Years of Steadicam".[4]
