A half-third cousin twice-removed of Princess Eugenie throughThomas Coke, 2nd Earl of Leicester,[8][notes 1] Brooksbank's great-grandfather was Sir John (Jack) Spencer Coke, aGentleman Usher toKing George VI and Extra Gentleman Usher toQueen Elizabeth II and his great-uncle wasthe 3rd Baron Hamilton of Dalzell.[9][10][11] Jack has a younger brother, Thomas, who is also an Old Etonian.[12][13]
Brooksbank was educated atStowe School inBuckinghamshire,[14] and theUniversity of Bristol, which he left without earning a degree.[15] His first job in the bar industry was as a bartender,[16] before becoming the general manager ofMahiki, a nightclub in Mayfair that was often visited by his wife's cousinsPrince William andPrince Harry in their youth.[15] He later worked as abrand ambassador forCasamigostequila.[17] He was also reported to have his own wine wholesale business.[18] In 2022, he began working in marketing, sales and promotion for property developerMichael Meldman's Discovery Land Company in Portugal.[19]

In 2011, Brooksbank began datingPrincess Eugenie, the younger daughter ofAndrew Mountbatten-Windsor andSarah Ferguson. They had met in 2010 when Brooksbank was 24 and Princess Eugenie was 20.[20] On 22 January 2018, the Duke of York's office atBuckingham Palace announced their engagement.[21] In April 2018, the couple moved from their residence atSt James's Palace toIvy Cottage, in the grounds ofKensington Palace.[22] Their wedding took place on 12 October 2018, atSt George's Chapel, Windsor.[23] Contrary to press speculation that Brooksbank would be created "Earl of Northallerton", he has not been elevated to thepeerage after marrying into the royal family, following a trend in recent years for a male commoner not to be awarded one upon marriage to a princess.[24][25]
The couple's first son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born on 9 February 2021 at thePortland Hospital in London.[26] At his birth, he was eleventh in line to the throne.[26][27] August was christened on 21 November 2021 at theRoyal Chapel of All Saints inWindsor Great Park in a private service attended byQueen Elizabeth II alongside Lucas Tindall, son of Princess Eugenie's cousinZara Tindall.[28] The couple's second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, was born on 30 May 2023.[29]
