J. J. Newberry is a historic two-story building at 6600 W. Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, California. It is known primarily for its architecture, location, and its 30+ year tenant,Hollywood Toys & Costumes.
Built in 1928, J. J. Newberry was designed by thenamesake company's architectural staff.[1]
In 1984, theHollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District was added to theNational Register of Historic Places, with this building listed as acontributing property in the district.[2]
In the early 1990s,Hollywood Toys & Costumes relocated to this building, having been locatedone building east since 1950.[3] In 2021, both the business and the building were featured in theparanormalreality television showGhost Adventures.[4]

J. J. Newberry is made ofreinforced concrete with industrial metalsash windows.[2] The building features an elaborateArt Decofacade, complete with turquoiseglazed tile and yellow and goldzigzags,medallions and stylizedchevrons.[5] The second story is divided into threebays separated by verticalpiers clad in tile and projecting above the roof.[2]
The building combined withits neighbor is considered "one of the most colorful concentrations ofArt Deco architecture onthe Boulevard."[2]
This J. J. Newberry building served as the inspiration for the Celebrity 5 and 10 Building atDisney’s Hollywood Studios.[6]
