Jörg Halubek (born 1977) is a German conductor,harpsichordist,organist and professor.[ambiguous]
Born inBeckum, Halubek studiedchurch music, historical keyboard instruments, andhistorically informed performance at the conservatories in Stuttgart, Freiburg and theSchola Cantorum Basiliensis. His teachers wereJon Laukvik,Robert Hill,Andrea Marcon andJesper Bøje Christensen.[1]
In 2004, he won first prize as an organist at theInternational Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig.
In 2008, Halubeck founded the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestrail Gusto Barocco[2] with a performance of Bach'sThe Art of Fugue at the European Music Festival Stuttgart. In the 2009/2010 season, Halubek took over the musical assistance of the co-production of Antonio Vivaldi'sJuditha triumphans of theStuttgart State Opera and theSalzburg Festival and conducted several performances at the Stuttgart Schauspielhaus.[3]
In 2010, he conducted il Gusto Barocco in Stuttgart Handel's oratorioThe Triumph of Time and Truth in a staged performance in the church hall. This was followed, in 2012, by the world premiere ofGiuseppe Antonio Brescianello's pastoral operaLa Tisbe, composed in 1718, and in 2016 by the world premiere ofJohann David Heinichen'sFlavio Crispo.
At theStaatstheater Kassel, Halubek took over the musical direction of Scarlatti'sGriselda (2012), Vivaldi'sL'Olimpiade (2013) Handel'sSaul (2013), Christoph Willibald Gluck'sIphigénie en Tauride (2014), Leonardo Vinci'sArtaserse (2015),Los Elementos byAntonio de Literes andAntigona byTommaso Traetta. At theOldenburgisches Staatstheater, as a specialist inbaroque music, he has performed Handel's operasHercules,Serse andAgrippina. Since 2016/2017, Halubek has been creating a four-partMonteverdi cycle with il Gusto Barocco at theNationaltheater Mannheim. In 2016/2017, he conductedIl ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, followed in 2017/2018 byL'incoronazione di Poppea.[4]
After teaching assignments and professorships[ambiguous] at the conservatories inKarlsruhe, Stuttgart, Trossingen and Linz (A), Halubek has been a professor[ambiguous] for organ and historical keyboard instruments at theState University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart since 2016.
At theInnsbruck Festival of Early Music in 2017, he directed Reinhard Keiser'sDie edelmütige Octavia with prize-winners of theCesti Competition. In June 2017, he guest conductedTommaso Traetta'sAntigona with international artists such asGoshka Macuga and Gareth Pugh at the Staatstheater Kassel as a reference todocumenta 14.[5] In 2018, he conducted the openingpremiere of theHandel Festival, Halle, Handel'sBerenice.[6]
Since 2018 Halubek has been working on a complete recording of J. S. Bach's organ works on original instruments.[7]In July 2018, he was invited with il Gusto Barocco as festival orchestra to theBachwoche Ansbach.[8]
In 2018/2019, he continued his engagement in Kassel with scenicBach cantatas and also performed a scenic interpretation of theVespro della Beata Vergine under the direction ofCalixto Bieito at the Mannheim National Theatre as the third part of the Monteverdi cycle. In March 2019, Halubek made his guest debut at theKomische Oper Berlin with Handel's operaPoro, re dell'Indie in a production byHarry Kupfer.[9]
In 2020, Jörg Halubek and il gusto Barocco founded the Stuttgart series, which presents baroque operas, chamber music, and organ music in different formats. In its second year, the event series was condensed into the Baroque Festival Week.
