Ixiolirion is agenus offlowering plants native tocentral andsouthwest Asia, first described as a genus in 1821.[3] Recent classifications place the group in the monogenericfamilyIxioliriaceae in theorderAsparagales of themonocots.[4][2] In earlier systems of classification, it was usually placed in the familyAmaryllidaceae.


The genus name – composed ofIxio- andlirion ('lily') – means 'Ixia-like lily'.[5][6]
