Ivan "Ivo" Visin (3 November 1806 – 17 August 1868) was anaval captain of theAustrian Navy and anexplorer.
Visin was born inPrčanj, then under the occupation of theFrench Empire. At the request of the government of theHabsburg monarchy, he became the firstCroat to circumnavigate the globe in a vessel calledSplendido between 1852 and 1859.[1] The journey started inAntwerp and ended successfully inTrieste. The ship was 30 m long with 311tonnes of cargo. For this undertaking of historical importance for the empire, he had been decorated with a flag of honourMerito navali by theAustrian EmperorFranz Josef. The trophy is on display in Birth of Our Lady church inPrčanj. Later, Visin became an honorary citizen ofTrieste.
