Iván Martínez Puyol (born 1 March 1983) is a Spanishfootball coach and a formercentral midfielder who is themanager ofSegunda Federación clubYeclano.
Born inZaragoza,Aragon, Martínez finished his formation with hometown sideReal Zaragoza, and started to feature forthe reserves during the2001–02 season, inSegunda División B. He would be regularly used inthe farm team thefollowing campaign, but failed to make the breakthrough into the first team.[1]
After two years withUD Casetas (suffering relegation from the third division inhis first), Martínez moved toCA Osasuna B, also in division three. He continued to appear in both third and fourth tiers for the remainder of his career, representingUD Barbastro,Villajoyosa CF (two stints),CD La Muela,CD Sariñena[2] (where he acted asteam captain) andCD Teruel.[3]
In 2015, aged 32, Martínez announced his retirement.[1]
In October 2013, while still a player, Martínez was named interim manager of Sariñena.[4] His tenure lasted one match, a 0–0 home draw againstGetafe CF B, and he subsequently returned to his playing role after the appointment ofManolo Villanova.[5]
In 2015, shortly after retiring, Martínez returned to his first club Zaragoza, being appointed in charge of theInfantil B squad.[1] He later worked with theCadete B andJuvenil A squad,[1] managing the latter side in the2019–20 UEFA Youth League.[6]
On 22 July 2020, Martínez was appointed manager of Zaragoza's B-team in the fourth division.[7] On 9 November, he took over the main squad in the place of sackedRubén Baraja;[8][9] initially an interim, he was announced as manager by director of footballLalo Arantegui two days later.[10]
Martínez's first professional match in charge of theBlanquillos occurred on 13 November 2020, a 1–2 home loss againstReal Oviedo.[11] On 13 December, he returned to the reserves after the appointment ofJuan Ignacio Martínez in the main squad.[12]
