Ismailia Air BaseEl Qūwāt El Gawīyä El Maṣrīyä is anair base of theEgyptian Air Force located approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) west-northwest of the city ofIsmailia; 116 kilometres (72 mi) northeast ofCairo, Egypt.
Ismailia was a pre-World War II station, originally opened by the British about 1915 as Moascar.
On 5–7 November 1938, RAFVickers Wellesley aircraft set anon-stop distance record by flying from Ismailia toDarwin, Australia, a distance of 7,162 miles (11520.4 km).
DuringWorld War II, the airfield, then known asRAF Ismailia, continued to be used as a military airfield by the BritishRoyal Air Force and also theUnited States Army Air Forces during theNorth African campaign against Axis forces.
The base houses an Mil Mi-17 unit and further this baseis being used for other military movements.[21]
