Ismael Rescalvo Sánchez (born 2 March 1982) is a Spanishfootballmanager and former player who played as acentral defender. He is the current manager of Colombian clubDeportes Tolima.
Born inValencia, Rescalvo joinedLevante UD's youth setup at the age of 14. After representing Massamagrell UD andCF Torre Levante, he retired at the age of 28 due to an injury.[1] After retiring he worked at La Creu CF and Levante's youth setup before returning to Torre Levante in 2012, taking over the club'sJuvenil squad.[2]
On 10 July 2013, Rescalvo was appointed manager of Torre Levante's first team inTercera División.[3] After avoiding relegation in his first two seasons, he took the club to a ninth position inhis third, the club's best ever position in the league until then.[4]
On 3 June 2016, Rescalvo was presented as the new manager ofCategoría Primera A sideEnvigado FC.[5] He resigned on 2 August of the following year,[6] he took overIndependiente Medellín as an interim manager on 16 October 2017.[7]
Rescalvo was definitely appointed manager ofDIM on 28 November 2017,[8] but was dismissed the following 6 June.[9] On 28 June 2018, he switched teams and countries again after being named manager ofIndependiente del Valle and since April 2019 he was appointed manager ofEmelec.[10]
On 25 November 2022, Rescalvo left Emelec on a mutual agreement.[11] On 8 December, he was presented as manager of Bolivian sideThe Strongest.[12]
Rescalvo resigned from Strongest on 8 May 2023, amidst rumours of an offer fromLiga MX sideMazatlán.[13] Ten days later, the move to the latter club was officially announced.[14]
Sacked by Mazatlán on 8 April 2024,[15] Rescalvo returned to his previous club The Strongest on 1 May,[16] leaving at the end of the season after his contract with the Bolivian club ended.[17]
On 4 January 2025, Rescalvo returned to Colombia after being appointed as manager ofDeportes Tolima.[18]
Rescalvo'stwin brother Juan was also a footballer. Amidfielder, he was also groomed at Levante.[1] His twin brother Juan was, as of 2024, dating show hostEvelyn Calderon.[19]
