Island Lake is a village inLake andMcHenry counties in theU.S. state ofIllinois. Per the2020 census, the population was 8,051.[4] The village surroundsIsland Lake, a lake which contains a small island.
The village was incorporated on June 25, 1952.[5]
Island Lake is a village lying in the northwestChicago suburbs.
According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Island Lake has a total area of 3.56 square miles (9.22 km2), of which 3.35 square miles (8.68 km2) (or 94.07%) is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 km2) (or 5.93%) is water.[6]

As of the2020 census[10] there were 8,051 people, 3,001 households, and 2,053 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,261.52 inhabitants per square mile (873.18/km2). There were 3,232 housing units at an average density of 907.87 per square mile (350.53/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 79.48%White, 1.23%African American, 0.78%Native American, 2.00%Asian, 0.01%Pacific Islander, 6.82% fromother races, and 9.68% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 16.49% of the population.
There were 3,001 households, out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.38% were married couples living together, 10.83% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.59% were non-families. 21.09% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.96% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.16 and the average family size was 2.68.
The village's age distribution consisted of 22.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41.1 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.6 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $83,970, and the median income for a family was $95,087. Males had a median income of $54,050 versus $36,000 for females. Theper capita income for the village was $35,714. About 5.5% of families and 8.5% of the population were below thepoverty line, including 10.7% of those under age 18 and 9.4% of those age 65 or over.
