Islamic Reconciliation Party orAl-Wefaq Islamic Party (Persian:حزب وفاق اسلامی,Arabic:حزب الوفاق الاسلامي) formerly namedReconciliation Committee (Arabic:لجنةالوفاق;Lejnat Al-Wefaq),[2] was an Iranian localethnic party associated withArab minority inKhuzestan Province.[4]
The party had candidates shared with theIslamic Iran Participation Front,[3] and was described as itsArabic wing.[5] It won several seats inAhvaz'sCity Council, as well as a seat in theIranian Parliament.
On 4 November 2006, theJudicial system of Iran banned the party and declared it illegal on charges of "instigating unrest" and "opposing the system", accusing it of fueling2005 Ahvaz unrest.[4] Following detention of some party members, a faction were radicalized and joined theArab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz which is a separatist militant organization designated as a "terrorist organization" by Iran.[6]
