Isischthys is amonospecific genus of freshwaterray-finned fish belonging to thefamilyMormyridae, the elephantfishes. The only species in the genus isIsichthys henryi.[2] It occurs in coastal river basins inWest Africa, ranging as far southeast as theKouilou-Niari River inMiddle Africa.[3] It reaches a length of about 29 cm (11 in).[3]
The fish is named in honor ofJoseph Henry (1797–1878), first Secretary of theSmithsonian Institution inWashington, D.C.[4]
