Character in Hindu mythology
Iravati (Sanskrit:इरावती,IAST:Irāvatī) is a figure inHindu mythology. She is a daughter ofKadru or Bhadramada andKashyapa, as featured in theRamayana.[3][4] She is also associated with a sacredIravati river, which was one of the names of the river Ravi of modern-dayPunjab during theVedic period.[5] It is possible that the riverIrrawaddy ofMyanmar traces its name to this name for the Ravi river.[6]
One legend states thatIndra's divine elephant,Airavata, is the offspring of Iravati.[7]
