Iran first participated at theAsian Games in 1951, and has sent athletes to compete in everyAsian Games since then, except for 1954, 1962 and 1978.[1][2]

TheNational Olympic Committee for Iran is theNational Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and was founded in 1947.[3]

Iran's best performance was in1974, when the country hosted the event inTehran, it ranked second with 36 gold, 28 silver and 17 bronze medals.[4]
