Iori Kimura (木村偉織,Kimura Iori, born 22 June 1999) is aRussianJapanese racing driver who is the currentSuper Formula Lights champion and competed inSuper GT.
Kimura started professional racing in 2016, competed in Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup. Then in 2017, Kimura raced inAsian Formula Renault Series Class B withPS Racing, however for one round only. He raced again in 2019 to compete inF4 Japanese Championship, where he finished 9th overall.In 2020, Kimura was supposed to race again in Japanese F4 with new teamHonda Formula Dream Project (HFDP), but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team withdrew from that year of competition. After one year not racing, Kimura returned to compete in2021 F4 Japanese Championship with HFDP. In that season, he managed to clinch 3rd place, losing out to the championSeita Nonaka & runner-up Rin Arakawa.[1]
In 2022, Kimura was promoted toSuper Formula Lights race withB-Max Racing[2] Kimura managed to get 3 wins that season, and 6 podiums. With that he managed to reach 3rd in the season behindKakunoshin Ohta. Kimura raced with the same team for 2023.[3] He won the title overHibiki Taira after taking his 6th win of the season at the final round atMotegi.[4]
Kimura also competed in the GT300 class ofSuper GT forARTA alongsideHideki Mutoh.[2] Both of them managed to win the last race of the season at Motegi, and that win was the last for the team as ARTA focused on GT500 for 2023. Kimura initially did not race in Super GT in 2023, but became a third driver for ARTA at the secondFuji round, making his GT500 debut after an injuredToshiki Oyu was still recovering from a broken collarbone.[5] Kimura also raced in GT500 withTeam Kunimitsu afterNaoki Yamamoto suffered a massive crash atSportsland SUGO, and was unable to compete in the final 2 races of the season.[6] Kimura finished 17th in the standings, with 3 points, all achieved with Team Kunimitsu.[citation needed]
Kimura then step up toSuper Formula withB-Max Racing Team's single car.[7]
