Intelectin-1, also known asomentin orintestinal lactoferrin receptor, is anintelectin encoded in humans by theITLN1gene.[5][6][7] Intelectin-1 functions both as a receptor for bacterialarabinogalactans[5] and forlactoferrin.[8]
Having conserved ligand binding site residues, both human and mouse intelectin-1 bind the exocyclic vicinal diol of carbohydrate ligands such as galactofuranose.[9][10]
