

TheInstituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) is anastrophysical research institute located in theCanary Islands, Spain. It was founded in 1975 at theUniversity of La Laguna.[1] It operates twoastronomical observatories in the Canary Islands:Roque de los Muchachos Observatory onLa Palma, andTeide Observatory onTenerife.
The current director of the IAC isValentín Martínez Pillet,[2] who succeededRafael Rebolo López on July 1, 2024. In 2016,EnglishscientistStephen Hawking was appointed Honorary Professor of the IAC, the first such appointment made by the institute.[3][4]
