Ingrid BeazleyFRSA (17 January 1950 – 21 April 2017[1][2][3]) was anart museum curator, author, editor, and educationist, based inDulwich, southLondon, England.[4] She was a pioneer in promotingstreet art.[3][5]

Life and work

Beazley was the daughter of a doctor, Ian Marrable, and his wife Kari.[6] She grew up inDodoma,Tanganyika (nowTanzania),East Africa.[7] The family moved to England when she was 12 and she was educated atGuildford County School. She studied for aBA inArt History andPsychology at theUniversity of St Andrews, then at theUniversity of London, and later for aCert Ed at ateacher training college inGloucestershire.[8][6]

Beazley worked at a number of schools inSingapore and theUnited Kingdom.[7] Later she was based in the education department atDulwich Picture Gallery, where she promoted the use of technology.[9] She established an associated community-runblog-based onlinemagazine,Dulwich OnView, and contributed and edited articles.[10][11][12] Beazley was also Chairman of the Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery from 2005 to 2008 and in total won nine national and international awards for her work at the gallery.[1]

In 2012, the street artistStik collaborated with Beazley through Dulwich Picture Gallery to recreateOld Master pictures displayed in the gallery using his ownstreet art style on the streets of Dulwich.[13][14] In 2013, Beazley then establishedDulwich Outdoor Gallery, a distributed set ofstreet art in Dulwich by international street artists (includingConor Harrington,[15]MadC,Mear One,Thierry Noir,Nunca,Phlegm,Reka One,Remi Rough and System, andROA), with works based on traditionalBaroque paintings in Dulwich Picture Gallery.[4][16][17] One on her own house byStik was based on the 1772 paintingElizabeth andMary Linley byThomas Gainsborough.[18]

Beazley authored a related book on street art,Street Art, Fine Art.[19][20] She also worked withGoogle's Street Art project.[21]

In 2020,Martin Aveling established theIngrid Beazley Award in her memory. The award comprises a £5,000 grant[22] designed to support wildlife conservation, stimulate creativity and support people suffering witheco-anxiety. It is awarded to the winner of the 'Human Impact' category (open to artists aged 16–22 years) at theDavid Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's 'Wildlife Artist of the Year' competition.
